Recently, I was interviewing with a potential client who stated that he needed my assistance with working within the Cloud. During that time, I had no clue what he meant because I did not know you could work within the Cloud. I have always thought that the Cloud was just a location where I could save all my documents and access them whenever from any location.
I have done my own research and have learned what the Cloud is. As I am writing this article, I am learning more about what the Cloud is and what it does. So, what is it about the Cloud and why is it so popular?
Cloud Computing is a group of networks or technology that users can access through laptops, servers, desktops, phones, and tablets from any location. This group of technology is hosted by a third-party company within the Cloud. For this reason, users do not have to worry about losing connections and not being able to access their applications within the Cloud.
Many companies still use computers that are installed with a lot of software to run their business. It can also be a pain to manage the software as it becomes expensive to install and keep the software updated. More businesses are now realizing that the Cloud is a better option because it is inexpensive, and they do not have to worry about managing their software as well as storing their own data with the help of a third-party company.
There are three types of Cloud Service Models such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS), and Platform as a Service (PaaS). Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) is consist of virtual machines, servers, storage, load balancers, network, security, and backup. Software as a Service (SaaS) is consist of all the applications used by the client such as a web browser, email, and games just to name a few.
Platform as a Service (PaaS) is consist of the database, web server, and development tools. The three common types of Platform as a Service (PaaS) is either public, private, or hybrid mix. The public Platform as a Service (PaaS) is within the Cloud and is managed by a third-party company, the private Platform as a Service (PaaS) is internally within the company and is managed by the users on private servers, and the hybrid mix Platform as a Service (PaaS) is a combination of both public and private.
Today, more companies are moving more technology to the Cloud. Companies love the fact that users can access all their applications and software from any location and device. The Cloud has many good benefits such as adaptable, it is multitenant where users can access at the same time, it is reliable because it is hosted by a third-party company and users can easily access customer service if issues occur, it is scalable because it allows users to access the Cloud from many different devices, and importantly it is secure.
