The New 7 Inch Acer Iconia Tablet:

It might be true that nothing can rival Apple’s iPad tablets when it comes to performance delivery and software integrations, but certainly, when it comes to dimensions, here – particularly referring to thinness, Toshiba’s AT200 has already taken the lead, after Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 had taken the light from iPad prior the appearance of the AT200.

But then Toshiba AT200 cannot even rival Acer Iconia Tab when it comes to the 7 inch space, and definitely, neither can iPad, and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10. 1 compete for now because the two are reportedly bigger than Toshiba AT200.

The new Acer Iconia Tab A100 is an Android tablet that is the smaller version of the 9-10 inches Acer Iconia Tab A500.

Although smaller in size, the operating system and the overall quality are really similar. They do not only have the same operating system but they also have the same applications and number of ports. The new Acer Iconia Tab A100 technically looses nothing in comparison with its siblings, except for the screen size of course, but that’s forgivable considering again that this is just 7 inches dimension wise. Besides, the user still gets to see websites at full width in this tablet, with the screen about 1,024 to 1,280 pixel screen widths.

The portability of the new Acer tab is really a great advantage over the iPad and all other tablets in the market.

The Iconia Tab A100 runs Android Honeycomb 3.2, the first Android optimised software designed for smaller tablets. This includes SD card support and the ability to use mobile Android applications originally specified for mobile phones and not for tablets. A disadvantage of the A100, is that it is quite heavier and thicker than the other tablets, weighing 410 grams. Still though, it packs functionality and power despite its small form.

A100 has 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, enabling fast website loads. It’s ports of Micro HDMI, Micro USB 2.0, Micro SD, headphone jack and docking ports are enough should the user plan to connect several external devices to the tablet. A 100 also has good speakers, microphone and built in camera.

Not too long ago, the only it seemed that the touch screen technology could only be found in styus-driven PDAs and tablet PCs. At one point, they were too expensive still and thus too costly too actually replace the functions of the keyboard and the mouse. But the latter mass demand for touchscreen technology called for using the interface in more than the PDAs and tablet PCs. But touchscreen technologies are not really the same for all type of devices. Here are a few insiders regarding touchscreen tech.

Touchscreen types. The simplest touchscreen tech is the resistive screen, a two layered electrically conducive material separated by a transparent insulators often observed as dots when a person presses the screen. It’s durable and works best for outdoors and industrial environments. However, it may not exactly be suitable for touch-based devices like tablet PCs because they only let 75% of the light from the screen.

Capacitive screens on the other hand work using glass that’s horizontally and vertically coated electrodes. This makes the screens more sensitive, thus there would be no need to physically push down screen to make it work. It lets through over 90% of the screen’s light.

Surface acoustic wave )SAW) touchscreens use ultrasonic transducers that send waves though the surface of a glass screen. Once the screen is touched, the touch interrupts the waves and they are converted into coordinates for software use. This type works with ATMS.

Another touchscreen types surrounds the screen with infrared LEDs, each having photodetectors installed grid-like across the screen’s area. Touching the screen actually breaks the infrared beam. This works optically through interfering with a light beam.

The multi-touch technology. The four mentioned touchscreen tech types are traditional and the touchscreen tech considered to be most wanted when it comes to devices involve more than the four types. This is the multi-touch technology, the one that is responsible for Apple’s success with its iPhone devices. Multi-touch technology allows sensors to detect several finger presses at one time. The alternative name for multi-touch is ‘mutual capacitance’. In a mutual capacitance screen, a small capacitor is found at every row and column intersection. iPhone 4 for instance having a 960×640 screen has 614,400 capacitors. Each capacitor is run by a voltage that changes at a finger’s touch. This interruption is usually fed back to the software as an X-Y coordinate pair.

Many of us are disappointed with HP’s announcement on the discontinuation of the production of devices that runs with webOS.

After a week, the confirmation of Choi Gee Sung, Samsung’s CEO adds up to this disappointment by putting to rest the speculations of webOS deal. Although this rather sounds frustrating, the team at CM provides us with better solution.

With the straight to the point cut, CyanogenMod 7 for Android suggests that it will run better for your stagnant Touchpad.

Apparently, this platform will provide a more functional Wifi access, faster audio and operational accelerometer with easy access to Android Market.

However, the code is yet to be revealed by the team as they are currently configuring the Hamsterdance effect. In that case, we have to wait and hope for a faster development.

Meanwhile, there is a plan for webOS to receive split global business units.

Apparently, the two units specifically webOS software will be moved to the Office of Strategy and Technology, whereas the hardware division will go to the Personal Systems Group. The splitting of webOS units is viewed to optimize their technology.

But there is another hint that webOS will remain as the major platform for the HP Company.

Whether what move HP is going to make, we are petty sure that they are going to make the best move for their company.

But as a consumer, we can’t close our eyes to the other options offered by other developers. In this crucial moment, only one virtue will stand, it’s either loyalty or practicality.

Apple’s iPad 2 awed several techno interested consumers when it was first released in March.

It just seemed impossible to have something light and thin, packed with a lot of apps and software that highly reflect extensive technology.

But Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 showcased during Google I/O conference surpassed iPad 2 in its dimension.

Everyone thought that Galaxy Tab 10.1 would be the thinnest tablet for some time, unfortunately for Samsung, Toshiba showed them that they can do even better with the new Toshiba AT200 tablet.

To really compare the three and decide which among them is the best.

It may perhaps be better to actually take a look beyond their thin dimensions and consider as well their weights and features in detail.

To start with, all three tablets have dual-core processors and 10.1 displays and it might just be difficult to see which is more advantageous or not. The following detailed descriptions account for a comparison among the three tablets.

iPad 2 measures 241.2 x 185.7 x8.8 mm. Its’ WiFi model weighs around 601 grams while its’ WiFi + 3G model weighs about 613 grams.

Clearly, the newer iPad model emphasizes the fact Apple has leapt widely from its last iPad design.

The thin quality seemed just so appealing to users that Samsung decided to also make their tablet design more thinner than iPad 2.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1, being thinner than iPad 2 is of course lighter in weight, being about 4 to 5 % lighter than iPad 2.

A plus factor is the idea that Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 already has both WiFi and 3G connectivity, whereas in iPad 2, the consumer would still need to choose which between the WiFi version and WiFi and 3G version would they avail.

Although the Galaxy tab is relatively longer than iPad 2 with a length of 256.7 mm, it still has some advantage over iPad 2 because it’s 0.2mm lesser in its width, the actual width being 175.3 mm only.

But Samsung probably did not expect that another much thinner tablet might just take away their bragging rights from them.

As for the moment, Toshiba is king of the tablet market. Its’ AT200 model is not only thinner than the other two tablets but is rather technically smaller and lighter than the two in almost every way.

Measuring just about 256 x 176 x 7.7 mm and weighing just 558 grams, Toshiba’s AT200 is 0.9 mm thinner than Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 1.1 mm thinner than iPad 2.

Considering this, it does not seem to matter that it is 0.7 mm wider than the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The depth dimension definitely rules over width and length.

Although thin does not mean best, it is just interesting to note how technology has made these gadgets possible.

And Apple, with its strong reputation for making incredible technology might have a run for its money, what with Samsung and Toshiba only a very few steps behind it in the technology world.

Maybe you’d like to think about this and give your perspectives.

Do you think Apple’s next tablet would be better in the thin department than Toshiba’s AT200? And what do these latest gadgets tell people about the gadgets’ build strength? Your opinions are always welcome.

Apple is one of the famous and influential multinational corporation who designs and manufactures the most popular consumer electronics, computer hardware, software and personal computers. It is known for developing the iOS, a mobile operating system and some of the devices like the iPod, iPhones and iPad.

But there is more emphasis on the iPad these days due to its increasing share on the market of the games platform.

Comparably, it has been seen that the gaming industry have seen to be previously dominated by the video gaming consoles.

But recently, the iPad gaming platform is growing fast with 80% market share, far too greater than the 40% market share of gaming consoles.

But CEO John Riccitello, cited that the declining result for consoles and increasing growth for iPad games is quite normal for we are in the cycle of casual gaming.

He further explains that we are used in buying a product every after 5 years for this is the usual time frame for making releases of new products.

Looking at it as a cycle, then he said that there is no big issue on this one. So, there is nothing much to worry about. In fact, this paves for more benefits on collaborative gaming than processing power.

In the meantime, the mobile gaming is also predicted that it will take advance over the console gaming with regards to graphics, power and performance in the very near future.

They have said that devices like the iPhone and iPad provide satisfaction to the needs of the passionate gamer.

Do you prefer to play games in your iPad than in game consoles?

This year, we have witnessed the different revelations and announcement of several devices that commonly claim to be the most powerful and ultimate.

But among the swarming reviews, we found one outstanding device that surely will get more of your craving for technological devices.

The Asus Eee Slate Ep121 claims to be the most powerful tablet. Apparently, this 12.1″ wide screened device is claiming this name for the awards it gained lately.

Accordingly, it has gained awards from different media reviewing sites all over the world such as United Kingdom’s Trusted Reviews which stated that Asus Slate Ep121 “can truly replace a netbook or ultra-portable laptop” and Germany’s notebookcheck.com stated “we liked the huge range OC functions, high performance and a very good display in ASUS Slate Ep121.”

On the other hand, this device features the genuine Windows 7 Home premium, Intel Core i5 processor, multiple data input options, multiple I/O ports and a 4.5-hour battery life.

One thing that I would like to stress with this tablet device is running in convenience with the genuine Windows 7 OS, this means that we’re assured with quality of the tablet’s operating system. Another is that the built in dual core processor provides a great punch in viewing and running applications.

The data input also comes amazing with multiple interaction options like the digital pen, keyboard and simply with the touch of your fingers.

Furthermore, the specifications of the Asus Slate Ep121 includes a memory of DDR3 1 x SO-DIMM with the storage 32GB/64GB SSD.

Its camera has 2.0 M pixel with high-definition audio CODEC with stereo speakers and digital array microphone. Specifically, it also measures 312 x 207.2 x 16.95 mm (WxDxH) with a weight of 1.16 kilograms.

For now, there are no information yet of its selling price and release date. However, you can view more details of this product at the Asus.com.

Have you spent your time looking for the nicest tablet in town? Well, you better take a look and check on this Android Gingerbread tablet.

Recently, we have been sighting for Google’s tablets and gladly we’ve found one that is truly extraordinary not only with its extra-low price, but with its powerful design and performance.

This is Ingenium 2.3 tablet that completes the list of Android tablets in the market. It features a 7-inch capacitive multi-touch screen in 800×480 screen display with Telechips TC8803 1.2 GHz Cortex processor and 512 RAM.

It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS with an on-board 4GB memory, but can be increased up to 32 GB through a microSD card.

Its connectivity provides HDMI port, mini USB, USB dongle and 3G supports.

Moreover, this tablet has a front-facing 0.3 megapixel camera which allows video calls and video chat. But , it doesn’t have a rear side camera of which not a problem for a tablet. Have it been designed with a rear camera, it would be awkward to snap a photo with a tablet high in the air.

Apparently, this tablet is now available for only $192. But if you buy three or more of this tablet you can get each for $183.

A huge discount isn’t it? On the other hand, you can also but this tablet online at Chinavasion.com with a 1-year warranty.

In general, this tablet may go well with students, academicians and business people, although it’s not a quite hardcore type tablet. This is very accommodating for people who are looking for a quality device with no extra pocket requirements.

Viewsonic has announced that the ViewSonic V350 and ViewPad 4 smartphones are en route to India.

And a few days ago ViewSonic has announced that two of its tablets would be making their way onto the Indian market within the next week or so, these two tablets are – a 7-inch tablet running Android 2.2 and a 10-inch Android / Windows dual OS tablet with Wi-Fi and 3G.

According to an article over at themobileindian.com by Nilabh Jha, the ViewSonic V350 smartphone is run on the Android 2.2 OS and feature a new 3.5-inches 3D interface, while the ViewPad 4 is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm processor with a 4.1-inch display.

The first dual-SIM Android phone to be sold in the country is the Spice Mi270 and ViewSonic V350 will be the next.

However, ViewSonic V350 comes with more features than that of Spice Mi270 which is basically just a regular phone.

Although Ajay Sharna, the country manager of ViewSonic, said that both phones are high on technology and offer superior functionality.

The V350 smartphone enables the use of two different network services at the same time.

The V350 comes with an HVGA (320 x 480) capacitive touch screen, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, Assisted GPS navigation, microSD card expansion up to 32GB and a 5MP camera with auto focus.

It would likely to cost you around Rs17,000 to get ViewSonic V350.

Meanwhile ViewPad4 which is Flash 10.1-enabled will offer both tablet and phone functionality.

It will run on the Android Gingerbread OS and with a 4.1-inch WVGA capacitive touch screen display. This model also features a 5-megapixel camera.

The ViewPad 4 will also support 720p HD video capture, playback, upload and includes a mini HDMI 720p display output.

In addition the ViewPad 4 comes with a front facing camera for video calling, along with Bluetooth 2.1 and Wi-Fi connectivity. ViewPad 4 also uses the latest ViewScene UI so it is expected that ViewPad 4 will cost you Rs 20,000.

What happens when you cross a desktop PC with a tablet?

A great way for humans to interact with machines is through touch. As proven by smartphones and tablets.

But is it really that useful when it comes to most all-in-one (AIO) computers, which is easier using a mouse and keyboard? HP sets to change that with its brand-new TouchSmart 610.

The HP TouchSmart 610 allows the entire PC to tilt 60 degrees from vertical to almost horizontal for extended touch sessions.

But why would you tilt your desktop flat on your desk? Isn’t it strange but this will make the touchscreen much easier to use when standing up at a bench literally.

The TouchSmart 610 has a full complement of high-end hardware. An Intel Core i5-660 CPU running at 3.33GHz allows a match for any of your programs, while 6GB of 1,333MHz DDR3 keeps it all lag-free even with many application programs running at once.

A Radeon 5570 provides groaning graphics and is suitable for a little spontaneous gaming. The 1.5TB HDD has plenty of space for all your files.

When tested with PCMark Vantage, the 610 scored a solid 4,211, putting it on par with most other AIO desktops.

A 23in screen with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 provides strong colors and deep blacks in part. When it was tilted all the way back we tended to get reflections from ceiling lights but it was manageable.

The touchscreen on the TouchSmart 610 uses an optical multi-touch system that provides accurate tracking with fingers, a stylus or whatever else you happen to be holding.

The touchscreen is just right in terms of pressure and response. It responds best to direct touches and confident sweeps rather than jabbing and flicking. The TouchSmart’s sensitivity can be difficult at first, leaving users puzzled.

HP also throws in a whole raft of connectivity on top of powerful specifications, not to mention great extras like the digital TV tuner and Blu-ray drive, making for one of the most well-rounded models available.

The included speakers are surprisingly good and could easily be used for a range of multimedia playback. If you can afford it, it’s well worth the outlay.

As usual, you can find the HP online for a few hundred dollars less than its $1,399 RRP.

Available from Hewlett Packard, retailing for $1,399.
Rating: 7/10

About the Sony S2 tablet. Read on.

To date, Apple is the leading manufacturer of the number one tablet today which is the ipAd.

Sony, a Japan-based company on the other hand is the leading manufacturer of the number one game specific device which is the PSP. But brace your selves, Sony, is yet to release a tablet of their own. It’s been a few months that Sony revealed their S1 and S2 tablets.

So how are these tablets different from Apple’s iPad? Let me walk you through a sneak peek of these features and tell me why AT&T needs to be the sole carrier Sony’s S2?

Sony S1 tablet’s functionality is compatible to the PlayStation and with the level of portable gaming that exists with Sony’s PSP, iPad gaming will now be in its extinction stage.

S2 is multifunctional and uniquely it is a dual-screen tablet. Because of its dual-screen, AT&T is attracted and finds it appealing.

Mike Lucas, the Senior Vice President of Networked Technology and Services Division of Sony says the company is pleased to be working with AT&T.

AT&T will be able to deliver the speed essential for the S2 tablet’s functions and features. What a perfect match, Sony’s S2 Android tablet and AT&T’s speed.

This was confirmed via PRNewsire since it has been suspected in an FCC report sneaking a quick look on S2. How much is AT&T offering Sony for S2?

There aren’t any rumors of how much AT&T will be offering Sony for the S2 Android tablet.

So when can we have these Sony tablets? As of the moment there is no confirmation of its release date.

How much could S2 cost us? With a competitive market, pricing for S2 is critical.

If customers can’t afford one maybe they will just go for the more well-known iPad; or if they want more games then they can have the PSP which is generally game specific.

But how do you feel about AT&T launching the device?

The carrier’s high 4G and mobile broadband will be advantageous for Sony.

Currently, AT&T has over 20,000 hot spots across the nation.

With that speed, Sony’s exceptional graphics will be emphasized through online gaming and video streaming which could become a key feature of S2.
