It’s pretty complicated to talk about, but you’re right, it’s like exhibition mode with story elements tied in, and all the while, the game keeps track of everything going on. In years past, you just played exhibition matches, but they were inconsequential. But now, if you turn WWE Universe on, the game will keep track of wins and losses and you’ll see various wrestlers move up and down in the rankings. Teams are going to form, allies and enemies are going to form, so now, these exhibition matches actually mean something, and to top it off, you’ll see a lot of cool cut scenes that will add to the storyline of the Universe that is playing out around you.

There will be a lot of surprises, that’s for sure, and we have four locations where you’ll see the cut scenes. You’ll see cut scenes when the guy is doing his entrance. You’ll see a lot of the interference happening inside the ring when your rivals get in on the action. Your enemies might pop up after your match during your victory scene and double team you with chairs. You’ll see divas get mixed up in this. You might get carried off in a stretcher. There are just a lot of cool moments that we didn’t have before and it really replicates the WWE experience.

BioWare is collecting player comments from Mass Effect 2 in order to make Mass Effect 3 better. You don’t need to do anything to contribute though, apart from play the game while connected to the internet.

The series’ executive producer Casey Hudson told consumer site IGN that BioWare had examined Achievement stats from 2007’s Mass Effect, but wanted to expand the amount of stats available for the sequel.

According to the information collected, the least played class was the Engineer, with the Soldier proving to be the most popular. The average completion time was 33 hours with around 50 per cent of players actually completing the game. Worryingly, there are players that played the game to completion in a single 66 hour session and four of you completed Mass Effect 2 23 times.

“Sometimes you’ll design something and think that it’s going to be used in a certain way and people will use it in a completely different way. And if you didn’t know that, then you would just keep making that system the same as you did before. But once you know what players like and what they don’t like, based on the way that they’re playing it, then you can make more of the good stuff and less of the stuff they weren’t interested in.” said Hudson.

BioWare seeded Mass Effect 2 with dozens of tiny events that would let it collect information on things like the classes that people picked or how many of the game’s conversations they skipped. Casey Hudson, the series’ Executive Producer, said that the information gave BioWare a window into how people were playing the game and how the company might tweak things for the sequel. For example, the soldier is by far the most popular class, and Hudson said that knowing that allowed it to start asking the right questions about the design process for ME3.

The “anonymous player data” collected by BioWare is obviously meant to inform the studio in designing future titles. For example, only 15 percent of people skipped conversations in the game, most of the time in “non-critical moments like in the hub worlds.” Hudson says that if the company found people skipping 80-90 percent of the lines that they’d have to “reevaluate the work” the team put into digital acting — and we’d have to reevaluate why people are playing Mass Effect in the first place. On Monday, Sony issued an update for the PlayStation 3, which the company touted as one that added “additional security features”. Sony has also said that it plans new updates to Google’s YouTube service in its browser.

The update is number 3.42, and it is a patch that makes it nearly impossible to jailbreak the game console. This means that Sony has obviously made a move to disband all the hackers that have been jailbreaking new PS3 consoles, but it is a sure bet that those hackers are working around the clock to figure out a way around the new patch.

Even though Sony wouldn’t confirm whether the v3.42 update disables the functionality of the PS Jailbreak, visitors to the PlayStation blog’s message boards were quick to make the connection. “I think we all know what this update is really for,” one wrote.

Wrote another: “Oh, come now. At least be honest about the update. We all know it’s the first of an expected hundred-plus firmware updates to block the Jailbreak. Now you’ll be doing these every day like with the PSP instead of actually taking the time to give us updates we actually need or working on making the system/service better.”

Sony is also reminding people that if they play games on a hacked console, there is a risk that they will be banned from the PlayStation Network.

At PAX Prime 2010, Gearbox (Brothers in Arms, Borderlands) president Randy Pitchford confirmed rumors that his studio has assumed responsibility for the practically mothballed shooter or the long-delayed first-person shooter, Duke Nukem Forever.

The game, due in 2011, will be available simultaneously for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Microsoft Windows.

Announced through Twitter, probably the most interesting bit of information was that the game is complete and ready to play, though it will be polished by new developer Gearbox Software before a launch next year.

“Duke Nukem, the interactive entertainment industry’s most irreverent and quoted character of all time, will bring his signature brand of babe-lovin’, cigar-smoking, beer-chugging and ass-kicking action as he once again saves the Earth and our babes from hordes of invading aliens,” wrote 2K Games in a press statement. “In other shocking news, Duke Nukem Forever will be playable right now for all attendees 17 and older of this year’s Penny Arcade Expo at the 2K Booth…giving the first hands-on experience with the game that was originally announced during the tail end of the Clinton Administration.”

Duke Nukem Forever shooting feels solid, although it’s definitely not up to the feel of even Borderlands’ shooting (Borderlands is also a Gearbox game). It’s hard to say whether or not Duke Nukem Forever will embrace the advances made in the FPS genre since it began development 10 years ago.

The FFXIV server status is that the traffic is too high and the servers are unaccessible at the moment. You can play Final Fantasy XIV online if you’re lucky right now, and personally I believe that Square Enix should have been more prepared.

For those of you who are still having problems  getting into the Final Fantasy XIV beta, it has been confirmed that Square-Enix are now limiting access to the beta, due to the overwhelming demand by gamers.

As reported from Eurogamer, Square-Enix has sent out a statement, informing everyone that beta keys are now being severely restricted, as the company try to manage their servers which have come under increased pressure ever since the beta went live last week.

The Final Fantasy game series is one of the most popular series of its kind in the world and the latest game that will be released is Final Fantasy XIV. Last week the open beta for FFXIV has been launched and gamers worldwide got the chance to get an open beta key in order to play and test the game ahead of its release. Well, Square Enix was overwhelmed by the number of players and it has decided to limit the beta codes in order to loosen up the servers.

Here is a portion of Square-Enix’s latest message to gamers: “Currently, players may not be able to log into the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, or acquire registration codes for the game. As a countermeasure to the congestion, we are currently limiting the acquisition of registration codes for the Open Beta Test.”

The Californian developers, Epic Games have always created stunning titles with often groundbreaking graphics. Yesterday, Epic released a free taster demo of something called Epic Citadel onto the App Store. Designed to showcase the technical qualities of their Unreal Engine, Epic Citadel is a stunning, powerful example of what the iPhone can do in the right hands.

Aside from Game Center, Epic Games opened plenty of eyes with its beautiful-looking swords-and-castle-exploring game demo at Apple’s iPod-themed music event. Although the full game won’t be released for a while, a free demo has hit the App Store to show skeptics how impressive the game’s graphics really are.

“Epic Citadel will dazzle you with a visual parade of special effects that recreates a stunning and realistic world only imagined by Epic Games, and powered by the critically acclaimed and award winning Unreal Engine 3.”

Epic Citadel is pushing bump offset mapping, normal mapped buildings, texture blending, proper lighting (and shadows), convincing animation, realtime reflections and all at a gorgeous 960 x 640 resolution.

The full game will not be released for a while, and for now you are limited to wandering around a gorgeous medieval city. If you want to see what your iPad can really do when it comes to 3D graphics, get your copy of Epic Citadel as soon as possible – the demo is free.
