MacBook Air’s imperfection:

The trend of nowadays netbooks, laptops, and tablets are base on how skinny the gadgets are. The more skinny the more trendy, the more trendy the gadgets are the more possible to be bought in the market. The MacBook Air is the new product of apple that is super-thin. The Super-thin model of Apple has so many compromises which will appear less appealing to the customers.

Just for an instance:
1. Using 80GB iPod hard drive as system drive. Apple’s customers are much favoured to a thicker fashion of the MacBook rather than to have a skinny model that has an anorexic.
2. Non-expandable memory. The motherboard of the MacBook Air has a 2GB RAM, that’s too undersized memory for a notebook that’s worth 2,500-4,500 Australian Dollars.

3. 64GB flash memory as hard drive. As replacement for the hard drive memory is quite nice, the dreadful thing is that it is worth 1,400 Australian Dollars.

4. Single USB port. Without the USB hub with you or the extension cord, it cannot connect from one gadget to another. Branding MacBook Air as ultraportable notebook is already defeated.
5. No wireless broadband. Please Imagine, the trendy notebook that is so thin has no built-in broadband. It is quite mismatch for a thick broadband to connect in a single port notebook to have an internet connection.

6. Last Gen Processor. The latest processor of MacBook Air is equal to Core 2 Duo, Which means it is so slow version. Remember it doesn’t mean that when you’re using the word “latest” is equal to “better”.

7. No microphone port. Well of course you need to have a USB hub to connect.

8. Non-replaceable battery. If there’s already fussed in your notebook’s battery, expect to send it out the entire MacBook Air to Apple’s company.

9. Not that thin. Apple’s claimed that MacBook Air is the super-thin model of all competing notebooks. For the record, Fujitsu Q2010 is half a millimetre thicker than to MacBook Air. Thick a little bit but when we look the lifebook of Fujitsu it is more appealing than Mac Air.

10. No Ethernet Port. You need to have USB Ethernet adaptor just in case your router stops working.

What is super-thin yet anorexic? That’s the simple point for those who still want to have MacBook Air in their laps. Know the specs first and have review in every product, that’s the secret to get awesome notebook.

Virtual Assistant from Apple:

The voice control feature that comes with the latest version of iOS 5 may outshine the release of the newest iPhone model even if consumers have already eagerly waited for the announcement the latter mentioned device.

The voice control feature, which Apple calls as a Virtual Assistant, is deemed to change how people will interact with their iPhones.

People can practically converse with the devices when they are deciding on things and activity schedules.

This service, which has been reported by Charles Golvin from Forrester as a catch up act from Apple with Google has actually been around for quite some time now in concept.

This has been described by Former Apple CEO John Sculley as “Knowledge Navigator” in his 1987 released book Odyssey.

Apple had been exploring the concept over the next years and the Knowledge Navigator took form in a tablet computer that was made prior the production of iPad.

This had incorporated an advanced text to speech function with a speech comprehension system and multi-touch gesture interface, technologies that were much similar to iOS.

Technically then, Apple has had the hardware technology for iPad practically established for years now due to Knowledge Navigator but it has not perfected the text-to-speech and speech understanding chops until the Siri start-up came.

Siri started as an iPhone application utilizing voice recognition. This is much similar to the iOS Google Search and Android apps for voice search.

The difference is with Siri, one ought to give descriptive instructions and Siri would deliver results for the highest ranking items that reflect what has just been described. It also gives the nearest GPS determined location for the searched items.

The Siri is actually the one that serves as the Virtual Personal Assistant. It functions in such manner because it does not only search for results but also does other things.

The user for example can ask it to make reservations in restaurants that provide services through the internet. Also, it can analyze the user’s personal preferences and interaction history to accomplish other tasks.

This happens as it is used several times.
Given these functions, then Siri may just take over the new iPhone’s popularity.

Are reading emails soon to be extinct? Not yet..

The first to go in the written communication era were post mails, although a few people still use post mail to contact others and to send important documents.

Post mail services have almost died out due to the over popular communication means through electronic mail or email. Today webmail however is going for a dramatic dive to the pits due to mobile devices invading the technology market.

But this does not entirely mean that emails are dying out. What this only implies is the fact that people are relying less on webmail and desktop options when they check their emails.

Instead, they try to connect to their email accounts using their iDevices like their iPhones and iPad. This is of course, at the expense of web based providers, but with advance technology, the providers cannot really complain.

Further research by Litmus’ Email Analytics showed that in the past year alone, the email behaviour of most users have changed, with 150% of emails opened through mobile devices.

What is surprising however is the fact that although people use their mobiles to access their email accounts, Outlook and Apple Mail have still maintained a steady hold over usage because of its applications, giving problems again to webmail popularity.

Speaking of webmail popularity, Litmus’ Email Analytics also looked into the browser preferences of webmail users.

The company found out that the Internet Explorer browser is the browser most preferred by those who use Yahoo! Mail and Hotmail while Firefox (in the lead), Internet Explorer and Google Chrome are in a close tie in when it comes to the preferences of Gmail users.

The other communication means that are considered to be part of the trending electronic lifestyle are SMS, social media and IM.

Much of these communication processes are also accessed through mobile devices thereby emphasizing the fact that the mobile devices are really taking the lead in the communication process.

The 13% of all email accounts have been even opened through again the iDevices, thus, needless to say, mobile are really getting much used for email access.

Clearly then, given these facts and findings, email usage is not near extinction yet. People still rely on the comforts email can offer its users. In fact, by 2014, it is estimated that about 3 billion people will be using electronic emails worldwide.

Acer’s Aspire S3 and MacBook Air:

When Acer made its Aspire S3, the computer company probably had in its mind that the smaller things get, the higher the possibility that they’d tend to bear similarities with other small things as well.

Let’s look at the features of the two and see whether there is basis in the arguments between Acer and Apple.

Air is 17mm at its thickest point, and S3, although claimed to be 13mm only, is actually 17 mm and even more if you take account its rubber stoppers. In terms of weight, both models are at 13″ but S3 weighs 1.35 kg and the air 1.3 kg in weight.

S3 is made of magnesium -aluminium alloy and has a lightly brushed texture finished while Air has been finished in smooth, matte aluminium.

S3 however has air vents similar to Apple but which Apple has successfully hidden under the screen hinge of MacBooks.

Perhaps it is unfortunate that S3 can run on batteries for 7 hours, as Air would not like that of course. The batteries of both netbooks are lithium polymer and are sealed into the devices.
A plus for Apple’s products would be their capacity for storage.

The S3 however, claims too to have a storage capacity o 240GB, and sells much cheaper than the Air with 256GB.

All Aspire S3 models have 4GB RAM but Apple in its Intel HD Graphics 3000 includes more memory than the S3.

S3 has a noticeably thicker screen and its 1377 x 768 pixels may not be actually able to compete with the MacBook Air which has superior display with an edge resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels.

S3 has few ports and connectors. On the right side, it has the SD card reader and on the left is the headphone jack and two more ports are the back, and the power socket and Full-size HMDI port.

It comes with an OSx10.7 “Lion” including the better than other competitors apps, the iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband. The S3 only comes with Windows 7.

Macs always have near-instant system resume with a 15 seconds reboot from a cold start. But Aspire 3 works beautifully as well with its resume, taking about 1.5 seconds to wake up from the sleep mode and about 2.5 seconds to fully reconnect to a usable state on Wi-Fi networks.

Given the detailed comparisons above, should Apple be really alarmed regarding the supposed similarities of the Air and S3?

Or can Apple still regain its’ position as the lead in the computer market? What do you think?

Mac OS X Lion VS Windows:

Both Apple and Microsoft have a good system of Architecture, However they may differ on rapid improvements in its software.

These are 10 features of Apple Mac OS X 10.7 or Lion:

1. AirDrop
With the AirDrop screen, you can now transfer your files between two Mac users. Its either Wi-fi triangulation technology to get the physical positions of Mac’s computers or you can have peer-to-peer network in which you can transfer files directly.

2. Resume
Lion will take you to the next level of Resume, It is very important to know the usefulness of the Resume because it will simply bring you to the last work you quit.

3. Autosave
The Autosave feature of Apple will surely saved your good files, it will automatically saved your work and make multiple duplicate versions. Apple’s Time Machine Backup has a capacity of restoring file to a whole version from your previous version of files.

By using iTunes store credit you can now purchased software that can be reinstalled 10x to other Macs. There is no need of serial numbers. The reinstallation is simple in just a one click away. This is one of the common problems of the in buying software because you need to be demonstrated before you can actually install the software.

9. Price
There a big discrepancies in terms of price. You will cost US$199.99 per PC to have a full version of Windows 7. Whereas, Lion costs U$29.99, the good news is that you can reinstall the software up to 10 Macs.

iPhone 5 is really close a release now.

US Carriers of iOS 5 have begun the final testing of the software and the staffs from Apple Stores have started training for it via internal application.

9 to 5 Mac has said that the training processes done by other carriers in the world are well underway too.

Such trainings however are similar to the trainings that happened prior the release of iOS 4 and iPhone 4. Aside from these trainings, the major carrier support divisions of iOS 5 are also being taught with iCloud too.

The reason for teaching iCloud together with iOS 5 is that Apple’s considering iCloud and iOS 5 to be integrated products.

This is because many of their features relatively interact with each other. Included in the training aids developed through Apple’s help consist of video based instructions and PDF files. With these things on the way, Apple will probably speak about it sooner.

A testing priority for the final builds of the iOS 5 is the workings of FaceTime via 3G.

This is technically a new feature in the iOS 5 system. Latest inside news have already claimed that the FaceTime via 3G feature is now actively working.

Some say however that Apple is not sure whether this will really be part of the features available in the final build that would be released to users.

Aside from FaceTime via 3G, other final build tests include Nuance Dictation speech to text feature. Such is similar to the version present in Android OS but such is more quick and accurate to use though.

The news on iOS 5 software up and coming release implies one thing, that iPhone 5, which will be using the software, will technically be already in its final production and shipment too. If this is true, then it is possible that Apple TV sales will soar high.

The new operating system will open up different never been seen before possibilities to Apple users.

Earlier in the year, rumor has it that all the finished devices of iPhone 5 are still awaiting the installation of iOS 5, thus, the finished products were not packed yet in full blast.

But iPhone 5 is now near its full production as the carriers have begun testing the final build for its operating system.

Inside reports say that Foxconn Electronics has even upped its production of iPhone 5 to 150, 000 units per day. It is expected to produce a total of six million in a month. Soon, shipments of the device will be on its way.

The suppliers for the iPhone 5 components are also already on the go. The companies Largan Precision for the lens, G-Tech Optoelectronics for the reinforced glass supplier, Simplo and Dynapack for the batteries, and TPK Holding makers of the touch panel have definitely gone to full production.

A total of 22 million iPhone 5s are to be made by the time they would be released in 2012.

The number is based on the fact that distributers have already started to make orders of the device from the producers. Even Pegatron have received increasing order demands for the device but Pegatron made public that they will not be shipping their shares unless the releases are really on their way next year.

There are however speculations that iPhone 5 will be available on October but most likely, Apple will just probably showcase the product and will stick to the original date of release.

Added speculations also say that the iPhone will perhaps include a 3G capable iPod Touch.

Hopefully, with all these speculations for the iPhone 5, whether these are true or not, Apple will still have enough units for all those who want to have a taste of this product.

Apple’s iPad 2 awed several techno interested consumers when it was first released in March.

It just seemed impossible to have something light and thin, packed with a lot of apps and software that highly reflect extensive technology.

But Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 showcased during Google I/O conference surpassed iPad 2 in its dimension.

Everyone thought that Galaxy Tab 10.1 would be the thinnest tablet for some time, unfortunately for Samsung, Toshiba showed them that they can do even better with the new Toshiba AT200 tablet.

To really compare the three and decide which among them is the best.

It may perhaps be better to actually take a look beyond their thin dimensions and consider as well their weights and features in detail.

To start with, all three tablets have dual-core processors and 10.1 displays and it might just be difficult to see which is more advantageous or not. The following detailed descriptions account for a comparison among the three tablets.

iPad 2 measures 241.2 x 185.7 x8.8 mm. Its’ WiFi model weighs around 601 grams while its’ WiFi + 3G model weighs about 613 grams.

Clearly, the newer iPad model emphasizes the fact Apple has leapt widely from its last iPad design.

The thin quality seemed just so appealing to users that Samsung decided to also make their tablet design more thinner than iPad 2.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1, being thinner than iPad 2 is of course lighter in weight, being about 4 to 5 % lighter than iPad 2.

A plus factor is the idea that Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 already has both WiFi and 3G connectivity, whereas in iPad 2, the consumer would still need to choose which between the WiFi version and WiFi and 3G version would they avail.

Although the Galaxy tab is relatively longer than iPad 2 with a length of 256.7 mm, it still has some advantage over iPad 2 because it’s 0.2mm lesser in its width, the actual width being 175.3 mm only.

But Samsung probably did not expect that another much thinner tablet might just take away their bragging rights from them.

As for the moment, Toshiba is king of the tablet market. Its’ AT200 model is not only thinner than the other two tablets but is rather technically smaller and lighter than the two in almost every way.

Measuring just about 256 x 176 x 7.7 mm and weighing just 558 grams, Toshiba’s AT200 is 0.9 mm thinner than Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 1.1 mm thinner than iPad 2.

Considering this, it does not seem to matter that it is 0.7 mm wider than the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The depth dimension definitely rules over width and length.

Although thin does not mean best, it is just interesting to note how technology has made these gadgets possible.

And Apple, with its strong reputation for making incredible technology might have a run for its money, what with Samsung and Toshiba only a very few steps behind it in the technology world.

Maybe you’d like to think about this and give your perspectives.

Do you think Apple’s next tablet would be better in the thin department than Toshiba’s AT200? And what do these latest gadgets tell people about the gadgets’ build strength? Your opinions are always welcome.
