The EDWARD Vehicle or “Electric Diwheel with Active Rotation Damping” is most likely something you have never seen before:
The name Edward means richly blessed or guard of wealth. It is a popular old English name for boys. But today, we have seen the extent of the popularity of the name Edward, whether in movies (Edward Cullen, Twilight), politics (Edward Stanley Kellogg) and in books (Edward Abbot).
However, the EDWARD that we are going to introduce to you are from the field of mechanical engineering, which stands for Electric Diwheel With Active Rotation Damping.
With this Diwheel, I have seen how Star Wars Movies have penetrated into the minds of its avid fans. Well, it may not be typical to drive a Diwheel on the road, but once you check on this latest EDWARD project your previous impressions regarding this vehicle will be changed.
As I have already mentioned, EDWARD has taken our Star Wars fantasy into reality. This project is one year in the making. This is a project done by a team of mechanical engineering students of The University of Adelaide. Impressively, there is only one rose among the thorns in the team of EDWARD project. This amazing vehicle has already done exhibits on several national EV expos in 2010.
While this may not be our very first time to see a Diwheel, it is different from the previous Diwheels because it is powered purely by electricity. It features a top speed of 40km/hr with a maximum incline of up to 12 degrees. Its braking deceleration is 0.2G. This prevents tumbling in sudden braking. You can drive it all away for an hour as it only has a 1-hour battery life.
