Kinect and iPad R/C Cars – Really Cool!

rc kinect ipad hack

This is Kinect and iPad R/C controlled Cars!

Nowadays, the R/C or remote controlled cars are appealing to a lot of geeks. But have you heard about the R/C car with control via the Kinect or iPad done by Gaurav Manek of India? If not, then this is good news for you.

Gaurav Manek is one real geek. His recent project on hijacking a remote controlled car is one real cool geek project too. According to his post on his blog site, his project is built on the Arduino that feature Kinect and certain HTML5. The control also extends by an iPad or by hand gestures.

Moreover, this project has two different versions. One is for HTML5 web app, which uses DeviceMotionEvent to get the readings of accelerometer and determines the activity of the car. It also works with Arduino which toggles its output to close and open switches on the remote controller that’s why the car moves correspondingly. The Kinect, which is the other version of Manek’s project functions nearly the same with the other version, but the Kinect data is received and processed in an application that dispatches instructions over the serial port.

Furthermore, the sketches of Arduino are also posted on his site that runs quite simple. And for the web application controller, it comes into two parts, the actual client and one is for server. But, between the two, the web-based client is more complex, yet interesting. He also has posted information for future expansion like controlling the helicopter to steer in three dimensions.

So, check on Gaurav Manek’s blog, if you want to know on its other details.
