Many carriers have officially released OS 6.0 for most devices the latest one to officially bless the 9700 with OS 6.0 is T-Mobile USA. Previous versions of the BlackBerry OS platform may seem quite dated when compared to, say, Android 2.3 but RIM is looking to change all of that with frequent updates. The biggest of such updates was the recently released BlackBerry OS 6 update that added things like a WebKit-based browser and more streamlined set up process.
The update hasn’t yet gone live on their website at press time, although Bold 9700 owners who connect to BlackBerry Desktop on their PCs shouldn’t have any problems with the update’s installation process. We do know that the release build is version 6.0.0.448, and what makes this special is that it is the first version of OS 6 made available to Bold 9700 users via T-Mobile. The software has to be updated when you plug your 9700 to your pc via USB cable and launching desktop manager. If the OS is available for you it will prompt you to upgrade to v6.0.0.448.
If you’re wondering why the update has not yet gone live at RIM’s BlackBerry website that’s because it hasn’t but, according to reports, hooking your device to your computer and booting BlackBerry Desktop should let you grab the update. There is no official word from T-mobile but it looks like it will be official soon.
