Turbocharge your mobile gaming experience with nVidia Tegra Zone app which is now live in the Android Market. Nvidia’s Tegra Zone app is available to download from the Market now. Released in anticipation of the many Tegra 2-powered Android phones and tablets that are due to hit the shelves this year, the Tegra Zone allows you to search for games that have been specifically tailored for high-end Tegra 2-equipped machines.
Tegra Zone has two sections, Spotlight and Games. The Games section gives you a detailed rundown of each title, and presents you with a handy link to the Android Market. Spotlight promotes featured games, new releases, and the like. The Tegra Zone app provides high-quality previews, reviews, and news articles about the games. Purchases go through the standard Android Market channels, but Nvidia said it is hosting large game files itself to get around the 50MB limit on Android game sizes. The initial games look to be all paid, not free games. The new app will also gift you with increased geometry detail, higher resolution textures and complex shaders, lighting, and shadows. You will also have a larger number of characters on screen and more levels to tackle. And of course, your game play and shopping experience will obviously be enhanced.
The initial store lineup includes “Samurai II,” “Dungeon Defenders,” “Galaxy on Fire 2,” “Backbreaker THD,” “Fruit Ninja THD,” “Vendetta Online,” “Monster Madness,” and “Hardwood Solitaire IV.” It’s a pretty mixed bunch, including a card game, a sports game, a massively-multiplayer role playing game and a high-res version of a popular casual game.
Tegra Zone will work on any device running Android 2.1 or above, but obviously you won’t be able to do much other than look at some pretty pictures for now. Once one decides to purchase an app, Tegra Zone hands the transaction off to the Android Market. As many of you know, the Tegra platform is the first mobile dual-core chipset and makes for an excellent gaming experience. Many of today’s top devices, including the Motorola XOOM feature this procesor, largely due to the way it handles hardware acceleration, enriched graphics, and better multi-tasking.
