It’s apparently due in time for the holiday season, according to this person. “For the iPad 2 don’t get your hopes up too high. That’s all I’m going to say. They’ve had a number of problems along the way, and the third-generation iPad is the one to make a song and a dance about,” said the staffer, apparently. One of the new features is Thunderbolt. Now, rumors swirl that both iPad 2 and iPad 3 might carry them too!
He said that the iPad 3, which will have a 9.7-inch IPS display panel with FFS (fringe-field switching) technology, which they say allows for a wider viewing angle as well as better visual quality in sunlight. The display will be doubled at 2048×1536, something we may not be seeing in the iPad 2 after all. Finally, as we known that Apple, the company never reveals any information regarding its products until it hits the market. Hope the rumors get into light and we have the so called Apple iPad 3 in market very soon in 2011, which is practically impossible.
That’s not all, the iPod Touch is also said to be getting some updates. A larger iPod Touch with a 7-inch screen could also be in the works. It would offer a screen density of 164ppi, which is still sharper than the iPad’s 132ppi. The idea is that it won’t be a smaller iPad, rather, a larger iPod Touch, and would keep the iPod Touch interface rather than scaling down the iPad’s.
The iPad 2 will apparently sport a faster processor, more RAM, and front- and rear-facing cameras but will feature the same screen resolution as the original. Apple’s rumored updates to its MobileMe service are coming as well, if this anonymous source is to be believed.
In terms of target market and possible street date, Kuo believes the device will enable Apple to compete more aggressively with lower-priced Android tablets when it launches in the second half of this year.
