Following yesterday’s iPad 2 announcement, Apple updated its official accessories page for the iPad to feature new products designed specifically for the second-generation device. Among them is a new dock made to fit the new, thinner profile of the iPad 2. The new stylish dock is a center piece for Apple’s newest gadget.
The new dock is specifically designed for iPad 2, and it gives you access to a port for syncing or charging the tablet, and also includes an audio line out port for connecting to speakers via an optional audio cable.
“This sleek dock stand is your personal hub for all things iPad,” the product description reads. It is not yet available for order. “Get easy access to a port for syncing or charging, and an audio line out port for connecting to powered speakers via an optional audio cable. The iPad 2 Dock also supports other accessories, such as the Apple Digital AV Adapter and the iPad Camera Connection Kit.” Both the iPad 2 dock and the Smart Cover are new products designed for the second-generation device. The company on Wednesday also announced a new HDMI adapter that will allow 1080p output from the iPad 2, but the $39 “Digital AV Adapter” will also support 720p video output on the iPhone 4, fourth-generation iPod touch, and first-generation iPad. It’s worth noting that the new iPad 2 dock has been slightly re-designed with a small lip at the front. The new dock is priced at $29, and should be available on March 11.
Apple’s second-generation iPad also including a dock connector that enables HDMI output, and new magnetic covers available in 10 colors. Apple says it’ll work with all apps and be perfect for teachers, lecturers, businessmen and presenters. No setup or configuration, supports rotation, and you can charge your iPad while using it.
The HDMI accessory plugs into the iPad 2′s dock connector and provides a mirrored output of the device’s display at 1080p. No setup or configuration is required – you simply plug it in and you’re ready to go – and it supports rotation. The HDMI connector is also home to a regular 30-pin connector, so you can also charge your device whilst outputting to your TV, and will cost $39.
