At last Microsoft has confirmed that some of the handsets running on Windows Phone 7 are sending and receiving “phantom data” after continues complaints from many users. Many complained that their phones were automatically losing their monthly data plans without their knowledge.
The company investigated on this issue due to users’ concern and found that the main problems were created by an unnamed “third party” service and could not find any other technical faults behind it.
The spoke person of Microsoft said that they were in contact with the third party to assist them in making the necessary fixes. He also added that they were working on it seriously and would retrieve it as soon as possible. The stats say that only a small percentage of Windows Phone users have been affected by this problem.
The problem was reported in early January with some owners of phones running Windows Phone 7, claiming that their phone was sending “between 30 and 50MB of data” every day; an amount that would eat into a 1GB allowance in 20 days and most of the complains were from US.
The company has admitted that not all problems may have occurred due to the same root cause and the experts are still “investigating” other potential reasons for the fault. The spoke person added that “We are continuing to investigate this issue and will update with additional information and guidance as it becomes available”.
The Windows Phone 7 was launched in October 2010 and the first time company faces a major challenge. Everyone is looking into to see how Microsoft handles it and retain its customers, because the rival operating systems from Apple, Google and Nokia are doing well.
