Google CEO Eric Schmidt is stepping down from the post and Co-founder of Google Larry Page will decorate the Post as CEO, Eric Schmidt will keep his relation with Google as Executive chairman, and Schmidt will leave the role as CEO on April 4.
Schmidt joined in Google as CEO in 2001, According to Google Schmidt will focus on deals, partnerships, customers and broader business relationships, government outreach and technology thought leadership. He will also continue to act as an advisor to co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
In a Statement, Eric Schmidt said that “We’ve been talking about how best to simplify our management structure and speed up decision making for a long time,” “By clarifying our individual roles we’ll create clearer responsibility and accountability at the top of the company.” He added.
According to CNN Money, on a conference call with analysts, Schmidt said he’s excited about the change, because the more strategic role will give him “a chance to work on the things I’m most interested in.” He expects it to be “a significant improvement in the things that I can do in my time.”
When Schmidt became the CEO almost a decade ago, Google was a promising but small, privately held company focused exclusively on Web search and without much of a business model to speak of. It was led by Page and Brin, two brilliant Stanford computer-science graduate students with little executive management experience.
“Schmidt has a great track record and has really steered Google to great success,” said Gartner analyst Ray Valdes.
“One of the things missing from Google’s strategy has been the social component,” Gartner’s Weiner said. “I think the ability to move on a major social-networking strategy may come more easily from a younger CEO.” In fact, Google’s struggles with the social Web may have played a part in the CEO switch, he said.
Schmidt also said he doesn’t anticipate any material change in strategy. “We tend to agree on everything,” he noted.
Anyway, in my opinion as Company, there will be stepping up and stepping down of CEOs and other employees but as long as the Company keeps its track straight forward and with healthy and practical ideas it can move ahead and will create new CEOs to talk about in the future.
