Installation
To get the App Store on your Mac, or simply run Software Update and make sure you see the OS X 10.6.6 update the list and checked. After doing this and rebooted, the windmill turned on my MacBook for a while, as for the usual update. After a minute or so, launched the desktop, with a new icon for the App Store added to the base.
The launch of this servant main window of the store, which also took time to turn the indicator of progress. Then the center of the window said: “Connecting to the App Store.” Then got the message “Unable to connect to the App Store.” Oh, no. No Retry “link, but there is an option Refresh page menu, which had no effect. Fortunately, a change of access point Wi-Fi did the trick, so probably just a connection problem.
In the menu of the store, I could choose Sign … or Create Account. So apparently it is not automatically linked to the account used in Apple computer. But this is a good protection so that no one in the machine to start buying expensive software anyway.
Interface
Five buttons on the top of the window echoes the iPhone, which lets you switch between views of leading, Top Lists, categories, shopping, and updates. The most prominent area of outstanding default notice is a rotation which occupies the upper third of the window. Along the right side, a panel of quick links, always present, allows you to access, view information about your account, redeem gift certificates, or receive support.
a new browser darting forward and allow you to browse your store of history, and a search bar at the top right lets you find applications and even suggests that consultations on the basis of their initial writing. Then the ad shows a section that lists new and notable, then it’s hot, and finally, Personal favorites. The selection is impressive, especially when compared with the chrome Google Web store.
As in the iPhone App Store, switch to Top Lists allows you to see sections above and payment-free applications, as well as blockbusters. On this first day of business, the application was high, as expected, angry birds, while the top free elections were Twitter, Solitaire, and Evernote. The categories page offers a network of 21 topic icons in the music business profits, each with three links to applications in the category. Versions of Mac applications seem to cost more than their counterparts iPhone: eg angry birds is $ 4.99, compared with 99 cents in the iPhone. What is even more daunting, I have not seen any application that offers free trials, or versions freemium.
But the opposite is true for traditional Mac applications, including Apple’s own, the excellent photo editor, opening, down from $ 199 to $ 79, and you can buy the components of iLife ’11 and iWork ’09 suites for $ 14.99 and $ 19.99 each, respectively.
To see the purchase page, you must access your account from Apple. After doing this, the page told me I had not bought any application. This brought about a subject I had asked about when Jobs mentioned this in the post-event Mac: How does the App Store with applications installed by other means. For example, the iLife ’11 applications are available through the store, and I had already installed, so why not store them know and offer the update? Clearly, you only get the benefits of the new App Store for applications installed through it, not all applications on the system. But there is a sign that the store is aware of the applications installed: The price of opening next button said “Install”, which fortunately did not allow me to spend money on something you already own.
Clicking on the page of an application, as in Ios, you’ll see a description, along with several screenshots, customer ratings and comments. But unlike Jobs demo version back to the Mac, in the final version can not see the job application from this page, or you can try before you buy. I wondered why the opening can be downloaded as a free trial from the software download page of age but not in the App Store. The user application discussed in depth at the bottom of the page of the application will help many potential buyers of the application, however. Users can not only the rate of application, but the reviews as well. A nice chart of how many people valued at each level, a TripAdvisor’s, the more help the decision process.
