Skype, one of the most popular Voice over IP [VoIP] services, appears to be currently down for millions of users around the world. The service has reportedly been down for more than one hour now. Many have already taken it to Twitter to express their frustration.
Twitter users around the globe are taking to the social network to report that Skype is down for them. The tweets started hitting Twitter this morning and continue as of this writing. Users are also reporting that their mobile applications, including those on Android and on the iPhone, are inoperable.
On its Twitter account, the company acknowledged an issue, tweeting: “Some of you may have problems signing in to Skype – we’re investigating, and we’re sorry for the disruption to your conversations.”. Some of our staff are able to sign on, but are unable to see any of their contacts. Meanwhile, users are rapid fire tweeting about Skype’s downtime.
The issues experienced by individuals seem to vary. For instance, some users are completely unable to sign in. Those lucky enough to gain access indicate that the service crashes after a few minutes. The performance issues affect both the computer and mobile versions of Skype. I, personally, am connected fine on my BlackBerry Smartphone. However, I’m unable to log in on my computer.
