Nokia has not hidden the fact that Symbian will receive a major update in 2011, with a series of software increases already promised. But until now, the details of what we can expect was thin on the ground.
Fortunately, a few snippets about plans Espoo fled after a presentation in Beijing International Conference on Mobile Internet. Word is that an update in the first quarter of 2011 will bring a new browser with a simpler interface, something Symbian has been screaming for years.
But big changes are coming in Q2 and Q3, when Nokia gives the whole look of an updated Symbian, promising “a new look and feel of the user interface, a flexible home screen, browser HTML 5 updated and easier experience software update.”
It is certainly great news, especially since even Symbian 3 does not feel as up to date as it could be. Expect to see more on this subject at the Congress next year’s Mobile World in Barcelona in February.
