Microsoft Gears of War 3 Beta Adds ‘Bulletstorm’ Epic Edition

Gears of War 3 Beta Adds Bulletstorm Epic Edition

Epic Games is offering for Bulletstorm, as the developer announced today that the “Epic Edition” for the game will come packed with a code for early access to the Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta. “Epic is poised to break new ground in 2011 with Gears of War 3 and Bulletstorm,” Epic Games president Dr. Michael Capps said in a statement. “With these two highly anticipated triple-A experiences comes a unique opportunity to do something to really excite players, and that’s what we intend to accomplish with the support of Microsoft Game Studios and EA. This is for the shooter fans.”

But, unlike special editions that go for a significant mark-up, the Bulletstorm Epic Edition–which is for Xbox 360 only–will be available at no extra charge. Bulletstorm is a third person shooter that allows you to gain experience which unlocks upgrades, as you wade through wave after wave of enemy. Check out the trailer for a look at the fast paced action shooter from Epic and developer People Can Fly, which releases early next year. Along with the beta access to Gears of War 3’s multiplayer, you will also receive 25,000 experience points, visual upgrades to the “leash” (a key weapon in the game), a powerful weapon called the “Peace Maker Carbine”, and a set of boots and armor.

Bundled with the “Epic Edition” of Bulletstorm will be an access code to the Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta early next year. GoW3 was originally intended to launch next April but has been pushed back to meet holiday shopping needs 2011. The beta should serve as a test for Epic’s new infrastracture using dedicated servers instead of the peer-to-peer networking that runs the Gears of War games today. The Epic Edition of “Bulletstorm” costs the same as the game’s regular edition, provided you pre-order it, making this a lucrative offer for anyone with an interest in one or both titles. It will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, but you’ll have to buy the 360 version to get in on the “Gears” beta.

The Bulletstorm Epic Edition will release alongside the standard edition of the game on February 22. As for how much earlier it’ll get you into the Gears 3 beta, there’s no telling yet since Microsoft still hasn’t announced when the beta will begin — as of now, it’s only slated to start some time in early 2011.
