Getting serial commands to and from iPhones iPads and other IOS devices is not very new. The problem is that most existing solutions require users to jailbreak the device. But a company called Redpark Product Development has just plans to serial cables compatible with the iPhone, “Made for iPhone” certification, and all manufacturing announced.
“We completed the development of our first cable products this month,” said President Mike Hour Ride. “We have worked within Apple’s” Made for iPod “program developed around the cables. As a result, there is no need to jailbreak the iPhone. “To meet” Made for iPod “policy of each cable will be designed for a specific purpose,” explains Hour Ride.
Because it was developed according to Apple’s “Made for iPod” specifications, you do not need to jailbreak or otherwise hack your device to SkyWire to work. Now, maybe control the telescope is not on the list of priorities for everyone, but Redpark say that it is only the first serial application, the technology they use is suitable for home automation, networking, scientific equipment and much more.
The company states that its newly released cables and companion IOS apps are ideal for serial devices such as point-of-sale kiosks, scientific equipment, industrial process control equipment, networking equipment, and devices used in home and office automation. We imagine that it could be useful for product diagnostics – such as a university full RS-232-enabled projectors are not tied into a campus-wide network.
The first cable has been released Southern Stars’ “SkyWire. The cable is used in conjunction with the SkySafari app to an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch into a 21st century telescope controller to run. Redpark is now available to work with IOS app developers who need serial connectivity for a specific purpose.
