Asus introduced the presence of multimedia center that supports USB 3.0 for transfer of video and audio HD Asus O! Play HD2. This device is equipped with a 3.5 inch hdd, support NAS, and connectivity to the iPhone and DLNA compatibility as access to online entertainment. Asus O! Play HD2 designed with swal-and-store, which allows users to utilize O! Play HD2 as an external hdd. Users can also use it as a NAS to the network with a perfect integration. Asus O! Play HD2 is equipped with standard functions of iTunes, Samba, and FTP servers. For music fans, Asus O! Play HD2 also can function as a jukebox as a store of music files.
The O!Play HD2 supports the most popular formats including MPEG2, MPEG4, MKV and DEVD functional navigation of ISO and IFO formats. It also supports Dolby TrueHD decoding and pass-through, incidentally a feature missing from Western Digital’s devices, taking full advantage of the Blu-ray disc to produce 100 % lossless audio. With the O!Play HD2, you can experience 7.1- channel audio for theatre-like enjoyment.
ASUS was one of the first companies to support the idea of multimedia “set-top” boxes so they have been leaders in exposing the public to HD Media Players since the beginning. As companies like Apple, Netflix, and Hulu anticipate users wanting “packaged” media delivered to households via the internet, ASUS clearly wants to support a large community of users who already have a variety of videos and audio files in their library that they want to share. There is nothing wrong with how Apple & Company approach their business model, it’s just different from what ASUS is going for.
The O!Play does come with some internet-ready apps, such as Picasa and Flickr, plus a weather and stock reporter, but these do precious little to elevate it. There is the promise of an Opera browser in the next firmware update and Asus claims it will continue to add apps in, but at the time of writing those are still a little way away.
Another interesting feature that the iPhone with the addition of special features can be used as a remote control to guide O! Play HD2. It supports all playback functions and settings for content, which makes this device can be integrated with other devices. Entertainment for online users, Asus O! Play HD2 to present live streaming access to more than 20,000 radio stations, Picasa, and Flickr, as well as various information about infotainment, weather reports, and the stock market.
Along with the development time, Asus O! Play HD2 users can update the firmware and drivers online to maximize the new format standard. Additional support for data transfer in addition to support for a USB 3.0 port, also presented two USB 3.0 ports, port USB / eSATA combo, card reader, and RJ-45 LAN 10/100Mbps. Asus O! Play HD2 has a size of 230 x 178 x 60.5 mm and weighs 730 grams.
