“Renault Twingo Gordini RS” or Renaultsport Launched in Europe

Renault Twingo Gordini RS or Renaultsport

Renault is to revise its Twingo range with the addition of a new Gordini version to replace the existing GT model. It expects the Twingo Gordini R.S. and Clio Gordini R.S. to appeal to a younger, but also more feminine market.

The new Renault Twingo Gordini will sit at the top of the range of standard Twingos, but will be positioned below the Renaultsport Twingo Gordini launched in the UK earlier this year. In addition to its Gordini cues, the newcomer boasts a particularly well-appointed interior.

Inside, the car has part-leather upholstery, blue leather inserts in the doors and matching trim on the steering wheel and gearlever. The rev-counter is also blue, but with a white background, while the pedals are made of aluminium. It has new sports seats with additional lateral support and 15-inch diamond-effect wheels (depending on market).

Outside, the car will stand out from mainstream Twingos, thanks to its unique look. This includes ‘diamond-effect’ alloy wheels and a choice of three paint colours: metallic Blue – which takes 90% of sales in the Twingo and Clio Renaultsport ranges – as well as White and pearlescent Black. On top of that, it has two stripes on the roof and bonnet as well as matching exterior details in contrasting colours.

The exact specification for the car in the UK market is still to be confirmed, but in France it will have air-conditioning, cruise control and Bluetooth. Among the options are several things not previously available on the Twingo GT, such as Renaultsport-style seats, blue/black upholstery and full leather upholstery. What buyers will have no choice over, though, is the engine. The new Gordini comes only with the 1.2 TCe 100 petrol unit from the Twingo GT. Engines options include a 99bhp 1.2-litre petrol unit and a 84bhp 1.5-litre diesel.

Final UK pricing and specification will be confirmed next week; order books for the Twingo Gordini are now open in France where it will cost from 14,800 euro (£12,950). The current Twingo 1.2 TCE 100 GT costs from £10,695 in the UK with the Renaultsport Gordini costing from £14,500.
