Nintendo officially announced its new holiday orange and green DSi bundles. Both of the new colors include Mario Party DS, which received a so-so score from us. The new bundle will be in stores on Black Friday for $149.99 MSRP.
Orange and green Nintendo DSi bundles will hit North American retailers on November 26 for $149.99 USD, with a copy of Mario Party DS thrown in. Yes, we’ve seen these before, so there’s no surprises here, other than that the hardware isn’t green and red for the holidays, as previously assumed. Earlier this month, Nintendo started selling a “Mario-red” Wii bundle for $200. That offer includes a red Wii, the Wii Remote Plus, Wii Sports, and a red nunchuk. It also includes a copy of Super Mario Bros. Wii. A DSi XL bundle that’s also currently available features the same red finish as the Wii option, but comes with Mario Kart DS.
Game system bundles are a tried and true way to boost sales of a console during its later years on the market and no one is more familiar with the practice than Nintendo. The Wii has come bundled with Wii Sports since it hit the market in 2006. Analysts that we have spoken with expect DSi sales to continue to be strong this holiday season despite the upcoming release of the 3DS, which Nintendo will release next year. It is thought that DSi will again outpace the PSP for the portable crown this holiday season.
The press release also had a neat figure; through the end of October, Nintendo has sold more than 43 million systems in the Nintendo DS family in the United States alone, according to the NPD Group.
