Sony has released a new PSP firmware update, version 6.35 for those of you scoring at home. If that home happens to be in North America or Europe, this update will add a Qriocity logo to your XMB. Other than the promise of the cloud-based music service, the update seems to be lacking. The only noticeable change is a “Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity” logo in the PSP’s music menu, which leads to a web page saying “coming soon”.
Like Zune, Rhapsody, Napster and countless other services, Music Unlimited will be a cloud-based product that allows subscribers to stream music on demand to compatible devices. Additionally, Sony is updating its Media Go connectivity software with “enhancements to the user interface and advanced photo editing tools.” Given that the bulk of PSP updates throughout the past year have been issued primarily to patch up security holes, this is a nice break from the norm.
