McLaren has officially announced the European pricing for its MP4-12C sports car, it will cost from £168,500 when it goes on sale next year. McLaren’s all-new model is designed around a one-piece carbon chassis, the so-called carbon MonoCell. Set to rival Lamborghini and Ferrari, the MP4-12C delivers 600PS from a 3.8-litre engine. The 600bhp two seater, which has its roots in the company’s celebrated F1 racing history, is priced to compete directly with the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini. Emissions are less than 300g/km CO2 in a car with a dry weight of around 1300kgs.
The 12C can be specified with a wide range of personalisation options, pricing for which will be confirmed at launch. There are 17 high-grade exterior paint finishes, including a tribute to the orange hue of early McLaren racing cars. Inside, there will be a choice of 14 interior trims. Performance upgrades include a sports exhaust, carbon ceramic brake discs, polished brake calipers and two lightweight forged wheel options. Carbon-fibre options will include mirror casings, engine bay panels and engine cover.
It will be the first in a range of high-performance sports cars from the born-again British supercar manufacturer over the coming years, which is set to include the P12 (codename) hypercar and a P13 “baby McLaren”, aimed at the Porsche 911.
Antony Sheriff, managing director of McLaren Automotive, said: ‘When we embarked on this challenge to design, develop, build, sell, and service the world’s most exciting and high-quality high-performance sports cars – from a brand new factory at our Formula One headquarters – we knew expectations would be high. ‘Announcing such competitive prices is a major step for us and another milestone achieved,’ he said.
The MP4-12C will cost from €200,000 in Germany. French and Monagasque customers will be charged another €1,000, while Italian enthusiasts will be asked €201,680 and those in Belgium will have to pay €203,360.
