The latest trailer for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1″ arrived online Wednesday (September 22), and it is a doozy. Fans who have been following the trajectory of the film’s crafty promotional plan will have a lot to take in after giving it a look-see.
Part one of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” may not be coming out for another 57 days. Far more action-packed than the original teases, the spot — which will play in theaters in advance of Friday’s “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole” premiere — is chock full of running, smoky spell-casting and shouting. We also get glimpses of Billy Nighy (who, as Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour, gets to deeply intone “These are dark times”) as well as the crucial (and ultimately tragic) opening scene, where Harry’s defenders all transform to look like him so he can escape the Death Eaters.
Warner Bros. has sent over the first stand-alone trailer for the first half of the two part conclusion, and I’m going to have to start inventing adjectives soon. I’ve always personally held that Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the best of the series, but this could very well surpass it. The series is at its best when the creators refuse to be afraid of the darker and more adult elements, and it looks as though director David Yates agrees.
