The open-source community has adopted the controversial PSJailbreak and now released the source code for PSGroove. After recently the reverse engineering of PSJailbreak had started it was only a matter of time until the open source community makes to the source code of the PSJailbreak.
Now an alternative to PSJailbreak for the PlayStation 3 was released. Currently, a modified version of the original source code of the PSJailbreak – called PSGroove – to download. However, the source code will only compile and also a USB-stick is necessary with a specific microcontroller, so PSGroove can be used on the PS3.
The PSGroove but differs in two things from the traditional PSJailbreak or from the cheap copies, the PS3Key. First, it allows the PSGroove not divert traffic from the Blu-Ray drive on the internal or an external hard drive. This allows the backup of a game not be created or played.
Second, the developers have removed a part of the original code, the disconnect before the freeze of the USB dongle the console was. The PSGroove can thus be removed at any time of the PS3.
The aim of the PSGroove it is to be able to run homebrew applications and games on the console. However, since PSGroove open source is, it is also possible that the source code is modified by other hackers, so the door to self-created backups is opened again. As we know, from Sony, the use of such a USB dongle to be traced with great probability.
