Google celebrates the Wizard of Oz on their website with a special logo for the 71st anniversary.
There’s something special on Google.com today: The search engine’s normal logo has been replaced by a colorful, yellow-brick-road drawing of Dorothy and her friends from the Wizard of Oz.
Marking the 70th anniversary last year, the film was remastered and shown to audiences around the country for one night in over 400 movie theaters. The movie included a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the making of The Wizard of Oz, exclusive footage, home movie outtakes, rare interviews with the cast, and exclusive clips with Ray Bolger, a.k.a. “Scarecrow.”
Google celebrates historic occasions, birthdays of prominent people and other events by putting creative logos on their site. This has been a tradition since Google was a very young company.
