Dell Inspiron Mini 1018 Starts Shipping in Europe‎, Heads to US With New Design

Dell Inspiron Mini 1018 netebook

The Dell Inspiron Mini 1018, a 10.1″ netbook running a new Intel Atom N455 processor and sporting a more stylish body, has started shipping in Europe and is expected to arrive in US soon.

The Mini 10 netbook features a curvaceous chassis covered in a sleek Obsidian Black and modeled after the Inspiron R series.

The Dell Inspiron mini 1018 comes with a 10.1″ display running at 1024×600 and is powered by the new Intel Atom N455 1.66GHz CPU, 1GB DDR3 RAM, a 250GB hard drive and is running Windows 7 Starter. The netbook takes styling cues from the Inspiron R series of notebooks  and is  expected to join the current Mini line instead of replacing a current netbook model. Additionally, users can expect a new touchpad with discrete buttons and single gesture functionality and a newly textured palmrest.

Unfortunately, unlike the older Mini, the 1018 doesn’t have many customisation options.  That means that if you’re looking for a resolution above 1,024×600 or a Broadcom Crystal HD accelerator, you’ll have to stick to the incumbent model.  However, upgrades to a 250GB HDD, 6-cell battery and Bluetooth 3.0 are available.

In other words, this is a cookie cutter netbook if ever there was one. There aren’t a great deal of options to configure either, as you can’t specify Linux or tweak the hardware. What’s more, Dell has taken a ‘less is more’ approach to the connectivity; there are only two USB ports, and single audio jack.

The new Dell Inspiron Mini 1018 has just started shipping in Europe. Priced at £279 in the UK(about $435). Check out new price and buy it from Amazon.
