Millions of bloggers were left unable to use Twitter after the site crashed for three hours this morning.
Users of the micro-blogging site were confronted with the infamous ‘Fail Whale’ when they tried to log on. The Fail Whale is the cartoon whale icon which is displayed on Twitter’s homepage whenever it has an outage.
One possibility that’s been suggested is that the World Cup—and the high volume of Tweets associated with a huge global event like it—is contributing to already-existent network problems, causing the frequent outages.
